UNISS, UNICA, CRS4, DASS and TOLO Green for the advancement of research in astrobiology

The University of Sassari, the CRS4 – Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia, the Sardinia AeroSpace District (DASS), the University of Cagliari and the Tolo Green company have filed the application for a new patent that will help to broaden research activities in the field of astrobiology towards a future where Mars might be reached by humans. This is precisely the scenario outlined by DASS as part of the mission “Sardinia in space”..


The company has started-up activities concerning innovation on organic production in the microalgae sector for 10 years.

Microalgae have an incredible potential for the world. Depending on the nutrients used, different microalgae types can be selected to target various end uses of the product. For instance, some microalgae can be used for humans’ food products, others for livestock’s food and some even to recover soils natural conditions.

The Production Plants



Zero Impact Production

According to advanced international criteria, microalgae production can be regarded as completely sustainable. In fact, water consumption is minimised, allowing a cascade use of water in the different processes in series.

Photovoltaic Plants

The built PV plants have yielded more than 22 million of kWh per year since 2009. This avoided 9000 tons of CO2emissions and oil consumption of more than 1400 equivalent tons, for each year in business.

Technologies for a cleaner world

Sustainability is a key aspect in our projects. The technology used results in low consumption and renewable means of production: solar energy is used to cultivate microalgae and water consumption is reduced to a minimum.
